Dental benefit manager change
We're changing our dental benefit manager
On January 1, 2025, we're changing our dental benefit manager — the organization we use to manage your dental benefits — to DentaQuest. We're united by our missions and will work together to improve your access to the highest quality care in the right setting. As we move forward with this transition, we want to make sure you're informed and feel supported.
What you need to know
We'll reach out to you if there are changes that require your attention.
If you have any questions, call the customer service number on the back of your member ID card.
Easier than ever to use your dental benefits
We've made it more convenient for you to access your dental benefits. You'll only need your member ID card instead of a separate dental ID card when you're ready to use your coverage.
Dental Connection services for all members
All UCare and EssentiaCare members can use Dental Connection, a one-stop-shop to help you get dental care. Get help to find a dentist, schedule appointments, arrange transportation and more.
We'll mail you a new member ID card for 2025
Access an extensive network of dental providers
Many members will be able to keep their dentists. DentaQuest is also adding new providers to their network all the time. Confirm that your dentist will be in our network or find a new provider using our search tool.
Frequently asked questions
UCare regularly engages in a competitive selection process to identify a dental benefit manager. After rigorous review, we selected DentaQuest because of our shared mission to provide purpose-driven care, their nationwide provider network and their extensive experience as one of the largest benefit managers in the country.
A dental benefit manager is a third-party administrator of dental benefit plans that provides access to care through a network of providers and access points. These organizations also help negotiate costs and payments between dental care providers and health insurance companies.
The change to a new dental benefit manager will mean few to no changes for many members, as they offer a similar dental care providers network. If you're going to be affected by the change, we'll let you know by mail and we’ll guide you through any action you need to take.
New member ID card is also your dental card
Beginning in 2025, your health plan member ID card will also work as your dental ID card. You'll no longer need a separate card for your dental benefits. We'll mail your new card to you in the next few months. Bring it to your first dental care visit in 2025 so they can update your information.
Dental provider network
As of Jan. 1, 2025, members with dental coverage will have access to an extensive network of dental care providers. Although the new dental benefit manager offers a similar dental care provider network, some members may experience a disruption in their dental care. If you're going to be affected by the change, we'll let you know by mail and we'll guide you through any action you need to take.
EssentiaCare members
All EssentiaCare plans provide dental coverage, and some give you the flexibility to purchase optional dental insurance coverage. Visit our EssentiaCare dental benefits webpage for more information.
Individual & Family Plan members
Although UCare Individual & Family Plans are not dental plans, some essential dental services and care are covered depending on your plan and age. Visit our Individual & Family Plan dental coverage webpage for more information.
Medicaid (Medical Assistance) members
UCare Medicaid members have many dental benefits that can help maintain good oral health and address bigger issues, if they come up. Medicaid covers medically necessary dental care, which may include diagnostic, preventive and restorative services. Visit our Medicaid dental benefits webpage for more information.
Medicare members
All UCare Medicare Advantage plans provide dental coverage. Depending on your plan, you either have an annual allowance to spend on qualifying dental services, or your plan includes dental coverage, ranging from preventive to restorative. You can also add optional dental coverage for an additional monthly premium. Get the best benefit by using a dentist in the DentaQuest network. Visit our Medicare dental benefits webpage to learn more.
EssentiaCare members
All EssentiaCare plans provide dental coverage, and some give you the flexibility to purchase optional dental insurance coverage. Visit our EssentiaCare dental benefits webpage for more information.
Our new dental benefit manager offers a similar dental care provider network. You’ll have access to an extensive network of dentists and dental care specialists including endodontists, oral surgeons, orthodontists, periodontists and more. Check that your provider is in network or find a new provider using our network search tool.
Use our network search tool to find in-network dental providers. If you prefer a paper dental directory, call the customer service phone number on the back of your member ID card and we'll mail you one. Once you've chosen a new network dental provider, call them to transfer your records. Tell the provider you're a new patient and want to schedule an appointment.
